Net Neutrality Heading for May 4 House Floor Vote? 04-28-2006

Communications Daily and Technology Daily are reporting that the telecom bill appears headed for a vote on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives next Thursday, May 4.

Proponents of net neutrality plan to ask the House Rules Committee to allow debate at that time on an amendment that would add net neutrality language to the bill before the final vote.

The Rules Committee decides when bills go to the floor and what amendments can be offered. If the Rules Committee does not allow a net neutrality amendment, backers of net neutrality will have to decide whether to vote against the entire bill.

Meanwhile, the House Judiciary Committee promises to review the bill early in the week and will likely ask that it be referred to that committee before moving on to the floor.

Stay tuned. Check back often.
